Bio
Mag. Norbert Mayerhofer, Austrian contemporary artist, born in 1952, lives and works in Lower Austria.
1968-69: Private studies with Prof. Adolf Frohner. Promoted by the sculpturer Prof. Heribert Rath.
1970: Admittance at Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. 1972-74: Studies at Famous Artists School.
1973: Studies of portrait-drawing at the Gamsburg Academy with Prof. Sepp Gamsjäger.
1981: 1st Price of The Cultural Board of the City of Vienna.
Various art journeys. Since 2005 free graphic art-design with a main interest on acrylic paintings. 2007 co-founder of the art-group “ML | art” (in companionship with Micha Löhe) with the main target to produce conceptual artworks made by both members together (signed with “ML”).
Since 2008 re-awakened interests in etching and traditional relief-printing techniques as well as in 3-dimensional multi-media-works.
More than 150 Solo- and Group-Exhibitions across Europe and US.
Artistic works in property of private and public art collections and museums.
Member of the art-clubs grenz/ART, kunstraumarcade und KNH.
About his artwork
Mayerhofers artworks deal with various parallel universes and individual realities. Born out of cryptic associations they carry the viewers into emotional situations, in which logical laws don’t seem to exist.
That’s why somebody may call his art surreal even though it’s conceptual.
At second view you can realize that all his imaginations have a main target: to break through our all-day ways of sight and feelings and to reflect it. The artwork as a dialectical process.
Mayerhofer works in several series, which are produced parallel over the years. Some of them are nearly realistic. Others are extremely reduced. He likes to play with different art-styles.
In spite of it his good style-feeling and perfection give autonomy to his opus and make it outstanding and easy to recognize.
